What follows is a brief and jokeless explanatory note on my Digital Photo gallery:
I have spent the last 6 years traveling the US as a real estate photographer. This has put me in strange places - wandering residential communities in the middle of the day, just looking around. Noticing things.
Most of the time it’s hard to consider the visual details of our residential environments because our brains have registered much of the information as irrelevant. Having processed the same information hundreds or thousands of times, we walk through these environments with our eyes closed, figuratively speaking - brains on autopilot. Over time, my brain has been trained to notice the unnoticed things - to find the beauty, humor, and mystery in the silent and ignored places of neighborhoods, homes, and communities.
These digital images are focused on environmental details and singling out specific items by centering them in the frame - making them conspicuous. My desire is that these photos spur you to reassess what is beautiful and worth noticing, to create stories based on these unremarkable settings. I like to imagine a movie was filmed and I arrived on set after the wrap to document the debris and bits of story left behind. Enjoy the quiet of these images. Create your own stories to fill their significance.
